In order to function smooth, the dash cam should be continuously powered by the car battery. The cam itself only has 320mAh built-in batteries capacity that just can maintain the cam works for a short time. With the dash cam connect to the cigarette lighter power source, the cam can be automatically turn on while the car engine starts. For the installation of rear cam, you may just set it behind the car and above the glass to capture the rear view. On the other ways, install the rear cam above the license plate and connect the power reversing lights so that reversing visual function can be achieved. Once you switch the gear to R position, the monitor will automatically switch to the rear-view camera and displays the reverse image. If your car doesn’t have backup camera, it may help.

This has good aspects and bad aspects. The picture is great quality and set up is easy and the app is easy to use. So as far as just being a camera, it works really well. However, where it kinda fell apart for us was the fact that the battery only lasted about 20 minutes. From what we read a typical dashcam will last for around 2 hours, which is good for just about any use, but 20 minutes just isn't enough even for a trip to the store and back and to keep it running we had to plug it into the lighter.

Upon opening this item it felt like it was a little cheaply made and plastic, but overall works well. I chose not to use the rear camera. I don't enjoy the power cords hanging down my dash so I would really love to hide them behind the paneling of my car. It works well, the image is clear. Instructions on the buttons were a little tricky at first but you get the hang of it after doing it over and over. I keep the manual in my glove box for reference.

I got this to upgrade my old 1080p HD camera and was concerned this camera looks a little bit larger than my old one because it has a lense that sticks out the front further (see photos), but it is still small enough to fit in the space between the front windshield and the center rear-view mirror. The "crowbar tool" it comes with is also called a spudger and since it's made of hard plastic it protects the interior finish of your car when you're prying the edges to run the wires during install. It's nice they include the spudger so I didn't have to buy one.
